The society was incorporated in February, 1976. Its founder and first President was Jerry McClish, well-noted watercolorist. The Gold Coast Watercolor Society fosters the art of watercolor painting by informing and educating the general public. Its exhibitions, lectures, and painting demonstrations provide access to the best that is currently being done in the medium.The Gold Coast Watercolor Society offers a variety of activities and is best known for its workshops taught by nationally recognized artists. 'Paint-ins' with live models and lectures with 'see-how-it's done' demonstrations by selected artists are offered.The Gold Coast Watercolor Society also provides the opportunity to have members' artwork displayed at an annual membership show and juried exhibitions. Throughout the year members' paintings are shown at local libraries and other public places. Beyond the local scene, the Gold Coast Watercolor Society provides information about tri-county shows and national art events to encourage participation by interested members.Gold Coast Watercolor Society is the only organization in Broward County dedicated to watercolor art media. With approximately three hundred members from the Tri-county area, it provides a friendly, cooperative climate for learning and meeting with fellow artists at all levels of ability and interest. The public is invited to share in Gold Coast Watercolor Society programs. Membership is open to all persons interested in the art of watercolor media. Meetings are held the third Tuesday of each month October through May at 7:00 P.M. at ArtServe, 1350 E. Sunrise Blvd., Ft. Lauderdale.
