Next Meeting, Tuesday, May 15
Featuring:
Nancy Hekert Teresa Kirk,
Joint Critique
Nancy Hekert:
Nancy is a signature member of Gold Coast and National Collage Society. She is a member of 2+3 Artists, Florida Artist Group, Broward Art Guild, and the International Society of Experimental Artists. She has won numerous awards and recently received two awards in Art Florida 2012, one for Best Mixed Media and one for Best in Photography. Her works have been exhibited in museums and exhibitions around the country.
She has been fascinated by incongruous pieces of beauty found amongst chaos and linear proportion - of seemingly regular bits hidden in chaos. She wants people to look at her paintings and see that hidden thing, to find that spot, that draws them over to look more because there is something there that evokes a hidden memory or message. She would like the viewer to have a feeling of eureka, of having discovered something of themselves after reflecting on the painting. She has studied how random applications of paint and solvents can be drawn into cohesion. Her art reflects a certain natural conformance within the surrounding non-conformity or chaos. The addition of personal symbols help evoke something to identify with – a touch to remind that all of life is chaotic but that natural forces (like gravity or evolution) impose some control on the chaos.
Teresa Kirk:
Teresa Kirk is a signature member of Florida Watercolor Society, Southern Watercolor Society, GCWS, and International signature member of ACT, Artist Changing Tomorrow. She is a past president of Florida Watercolor and currently serves as Director of Operations and Workshop Chairperson of Gold Coast Watercolor Society. Teresa currently teaches both watercolor and plein air at Boca Raton Museum of Art.
Teresa Kirk as a mother of two boys found she had a lot of time on her hands as they started leaving home. Looking for something to occupy her time, an adult watercolor class (no drawing experience necessary) piqued her interest. The rest is history, she was hooked!
Her work often portrays the rhythms of life with layers that build up as we experience that life. Teresa often paints Plein Air to capture life in its element. Transparent Watercolor is her love but she incorporates gouache and acrylic to capture the layers of history that inspire her.
Please join us at Art Serve on Tuesday, May 15, 2012 at 7:00 PM when Nancy Herkert and Teresa Kirk will be providing a joint critique of Gold Coast Watercolor Society members’ paintings. Each GCWS current member is encouraged to bring one painting for them to critique.
